Director of Finance and Operations

The mission of Evergreen Christian Outreach (EChO) is to assist people in our community with their basic and urgent needs and to help them realize their potential on their path to selfsufficiency. EChO’s services are designed to assist community members who are facing personal or economic adversity by providing a range of wrap-around services tailored to the specific needs of individuals and families. EChO’s programs include the Food Pantry, Client Services, Job Center, Evergreen Shelter and the EChO ReSale Store. EChO serves a diverse population primarily consisting of residents of the unincorporated mountain areas of Jefferson and Clear Creek counties. We are currently seeking a Director of Finance and Operations. This is a new position at EChO and requires someone who can envision, develop and implement processes that will enhance the effectiveness of EChO’s mission. POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for all of EChO’s financial/ accounting operations, policy, procedures, strategy and audits. Additionally, the Director provides oversight of HR, IT, and Facilities. The Director of Finance and Operations is part of EChO’s Leadership team guiding the implementation of strategic and operational plans. This position supervises the bookkeeping staff and works closely with the Executive Director, Leadership Team and Board of Directors. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership  Collaborates with and supports the Executive Director and leadership team on agency wide planning, objectives and initiatives to achieve strategic and operational goals  Lead the finance/ accounting department  Supervise accounting staff, volunteers and vendors/contractors Finance and Accounting  Responsible for overall external and internal financial reporting, operations, internal controls, agency budgets and forecasts  Liaison with the Board Finance and Operations Committee  Oversee cash & asset management, financial strategies and banking relationships  Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements  Manages all audits and monitoring preparation and execution.  Develop, implement and update finance/accounting policies, procedures and protocols  Ensure financial policies, procedures, systems and protocols to stay in compliance with federal, state, local and funder laws, regulations, rules and restrictions  Advise and train staff on accounting and payroll issues, policies and procedures Independent Judgement  Responsible for day-to-day decision making and financial strategy in collaboration with Executive Director  Responsible for hiring accounting/bookkeeping staff Fundraising and Grants Management  Support fundraising efforts  Provide grant budgets and other necessary information  Maintain knowledge of all grants, contract requirements  Maintain knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures  Develop and implement systems to track, manage and report on grant funds and reimbursements Personnel, Payroll and Benefits  In conjunction with Executive Director and Human Resources contractor provide oversight to all Human Resources functions including personnel files, new employee paperwork and onboarding, schedule of benefits, payroll administration, and up to date employee handbook. Facilities and Operations  Work with Executive Director to update and implement all necessary business policies and practices, building security, and other policies to ensure smooth day to day operations  Maintain all agency insurance policies, equipment leases, contracts with vendors, and ensure compliance with applicable state and local requirements  Ensure appropriate IT systems and security are in place. Help assess IT hardware and software needs for effective operations.  Maintain organized and accessible agency records  Oversee QUALIFICATIONS  BS degree in accounting, business administration, nonprofit management or related field  Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant a plus  5 years of experience in finance/accounting/auditing  Supervisory experience  Demonstrated experience planning and managing audits KEY COMPETENCIES  Outstanding strategic thinking and planning talent  Strong leadership capabilities; ability to manage others  Superior organizational skills and attention to detail  Creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship  Exceptional verbal, written communication and computer skills  Good relationship development skills Additional Information: This position reports to the Executive Director and is part of EChO’s Leadership Team EChO provides a competitive salary and benefits package, including vacation, sick and personal leave.
